VibroAcoutistic Therapy (VAT)

Olav Skille was a Music Therapist, Musician and Music Educator who introduced the concept of Viboracoustic Therapy in 1889 at the International Society for Music in Medicine Symposium (ISMM). In an article Interview with Olav Skille by Sarajane Williams (The Harp Therapy Journal 1996) O. Skille states β€œVAT is a form of therapy where we transfer sound directly to the human body: using a loudspeaker or transducers as the active medium. The loud speakers are built into a chair, bed, or couch and the patient is sitting/lying directly above the surface . . . Vibrating the surface with sound, we also cause the sounds to penetrate the body and in this way we can obtain an [cellular] massage.” (S. Williams, O. Skille, 1996)
